“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. And if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full. Take care lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them; then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you, and he will shut up the heavens, so that there will be no rain, and the land will yield no fruit, and you will perish quickly off the good land that the Lord is giving you. You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens are above the earth” Deuteronomy 6:4-9; 11:13-21

This is the Shema. Rolled up and put in a mezuzah on the doorposts of a home. This design is a limited custom series for Christmas. Christmas is about Yeshua. We often forget that, we forget that the day we celebrate was created for Him to die. How does this and the Shema relate you ask? The Shema is the central prayer in the Jewish prayerbook (Siddur) and is often the first section of Scripture that a Jewish child learns. During its recitation in the synagogue, Orthodox Jews pronounce each word very carefully and cover their eyes with their right hand. Many Jews recite the Shema at least twice daily: once in the morning and once in the evening. It is also sometimes said as a bedtime prayer. The Shema is recited because of the importance of what is in these verses. This portion of scripture was a command to love God and to be reminded of His sovereignty. The initial verse, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one” – the original Hebrew translates this as “the LORD is our God, the Lord alone”. This should be a reminder in this season that the only true gift we already have is the blood of Christ. That the Lord is our God – Him alone, not the newest shoes, the newest game system, not even this stupid shirt. My God is the one who sent His son so that we can be reconciled to Himself. I want to focus on that God this season, not anything else that can distract us from our King – Yeshua.

It is important to note that verse 5 states, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might”. In Hebrew the heart usually refers to the interior of the body, conceived of as the seat of thought, intention, and feeling, and “soul” refers to the seat of the emotions, passions, and desires. God’s “heart and soul” refers to His wishes and purposes (1 Sam. 2:35). To do something with all the heart and soul means to do it with the totality of one’s thoughts, feelings, intentions, and desires. The phrase is used to describe how we must love God, serve Him, observe His commandments, and return to Him. In these exhortations the emphasis is on the word “all”: Since YHVH alone is our God, we must love and serve Him with undivided devotion. What God will you serve this season?

The two letters Ayin and Dalet are enlarged in the first sentence of the Shema. Together, these letters form the word ’ed, which means witness; suggesting that the Shema is a testimony of the sovereignty of God. Let this season of celebration be a witness to the ultimate gift – Yeshua.

This shirt is red ink on white shirt only. It has to be red ink to represent the blood that will ultimately be shed as a result of the birth of Jesus. If the ink is purple that would mean the blood was never shed. Think about it. American Apparel or Kirkland depending on the size.
